DREAM BOY
A Film by James Bolton

Cast: Brandon J. Blanchard, Maximillian Roeg, Michele Adams, Owen Beckman, Randy Wayne

Set in Louisiana in the 1970s, Dream Boy is an evocative drama that will stay with you long after the film’s startling conclusion. Finding himself once again in a new town, quiet and reclusive teen Nathan can’t take his eyes off Roy, a long-haired, handsome farm boy that drives the school bus. Seemingly straight, Roy nonetheless seems to welcome Nathan’s glances at him in the bus mirror. Soon Nathan is tutoring Roy, which leads to friendship and then to touching, and then to more. But as Nathan and Roy bask in a sweet budding relationship, Bolton’s use of ominous music and dark innuendos signal that the plot will likely lead to a much darker place for our duo. Full Summary

Edge of Seventeen-M0002

03.23

One of the classics in contemporary American gay cinema, Edge of Seventeen recalls one high school student's eventful and raucous coming-out during the steamy summer of 1984. Eric (Chris Stafford) is a 17-year-old senior from Ohio who takes a summer job at a local amusement park. Working alongside his best gal pal Maggie (Tina Holmes), the two idle away the days until Eric meets Rod (Andersen Gabrych), a sexy and openly gay college student. Soon sparks fly and Eric must confront feelings he had long suppressed. A funny, entertaining and insightful coming-of-age tale, Edge of Seventeen is enhanced by a great '80s soundtrack (including Bronski Beat and Eurythmics), terrific period design and a high-energy, up-beat tempo, making this an exciting and original take on growing up and finding love.

Prayers For Bobby-M0001

03.14

In "Prayers for Bobby," Mary Griffith is a devout Christian who raises her children with the conservative teachings of the Presbyterian Church. However, when her son Bobby confides to his older brother he may be gay, life changes for the entire family after Mary learns about his secret. While Bobby's father and siblings slowly come to terms with his homosexuality, Mary believes God can cure him of what she considers his 'sin' and persuades Bobby to pray harder and seek solace in church activities in hopes of changing him. Desperate for his mother's approval, Bobby does what is asked of him, but through it all, the church's apparent disapproval of homosexuality causes him to grow increasingly withdrawn and depressed. Guilty over the pain he is causing Mary, Bobby moves away, yet hopes that some day his mother will accept him. His subsequent depression and self-loathing intensifies as he blames himself for not being the 'perfect' son and is driven to suicide. Faced with their tragedy, Mary begins to question her faith when she receives no answers from her pastor concerning her devastating loss. Through her long and emotional journey, Mary slowly reaches out to the gay community and discovers unexpected support from a very unlikely source. The film is based on the 1995 Leroy Aarons book of the same name.
