SONG FOR A RAGGY BOY
A Film by Aisling Walsh
Cast: Aidan Quinn, Iain Glen, Marc Warren, Dudley Sutton, Alan Devlin, Stuart Graham, John Travers, Chris Newman, Andrew Simpson, Mark Butler
Song for a Raggy Boy is a gut-wrenching film that will anger and disturb you with its' portrayal of the trials of a teacher (Aidan Quinn)) against the horrific treatment of the 'lesser among you' by the Catholic State and Institution of Ireland in the last century. The actors playing the boys living the worst kind of hell-on-earth imaginable in Song for a Raggy Boy, mostly non-professionals headed by the gifted John Travers, could not have been better cast or give better performances. Based on a memoir, whose brutality and inhumanity is confirmed by the recently released 'Report of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse in Ireland'. Full Summary
